Stella Mae (Allen) Joanis, 94, of Bellingham died March 1 in the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham She was the wife of the late Bernard F. Joanis who died in 1976.
Born in Medway, November 20, 1920, the daughter of the late Henry T. and Lillian A. (Chapdelaine) Allen, Mrs. Joanis was raised in Medway and had lived for most of her life in Bellingham.
Mrs. Joanis along with her late husband had owned and operated the Caryville Garage for many years.
Stella was a person who loved life; she had been a pilot, a race car driver and loved the horses she kept.
Many people were the beneficiary of her generous nature.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Joanis of Framingham, Steven Joanis and his wife Bronya of Franklin and was the mother of the late James Joanis.
She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Michele Bassett of Bellingham.
She was the sister of the late Henry Allen and Ruth Whalen.
She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 4 from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber Street, Medway at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Brendan’s Church at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Uxbridge.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.
