Cynthia (Litwin) McDermott, 48, of 31 Hale Haven Court, Uncasville, died peacefully Sunday afternoon at her home with her family at her side.
Cynthia was born in Norwich on March 26, 1956 the daughter of George A. Litwin of Uncasville and the late Jean (Tripodena) Litwin.
She was a 1974 graduate of Montville High School and was working towards her Associates Degree at Three Rivers Community College.
She was employed as a Senior Procurement Clerk at Pfizer in Groton since 1996. Previously, she was employed as bookkeeper for JTK Management Company for 17years and worked as a waitress at the company’s Steak Loft Restaurant in Mystic.
Known for her strong faith, determination, and positive attitude, Cynthia courageously fought her illness for the past 18 months. She was an avid New York Yankees fan and attended four games in the past year. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, the ocean, and deep sea fishing. Those who knew her will also fondly remember her sense of humor and quick wit.
Cynthia was married to Edward P. McDermott Jr. in Old Saybrook on June 15, 1991 and together they had two children; Katie A. and Connor O. McDermott, both living at home. In addition to her father, she is also survived by her stepdaughter, Meghan K. McDermott of Plainfield; her siblings, Allen Litwin of Salem and Beth Litwin Hallisey of Uncasville; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Tuesday from 5-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, E. Main Street, Mystic on Wednesday at 11am with Fr. Stephen Gulino, Pastor of St. John's Church, Montville, celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Old Mystic.
