Obituary

Sanbornton-----George B. Hickey, Jr., 64, of Hunkins Pond Road passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, February 25, 2015.
George was born in Cambridge, Mass. on February 3, 1951 the son of George B. and Evelyn (Crotty) Hickey, Sr. He resided in East Boston, Mass. before moving to Sanbornton forty years ago.
George was a self-employed architect who practiced in NH for many years. He specialized in affordable housing design, working closely with many builders and non-profits including the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority, Laconia Area Community Land Trust, Southwestern Community Services and Harbor Homes. Some of his projects included Lochmere Meadows, Mechanic Street School Affordable Housing Complex in Laconia, Mill View Apartments in Laconia, Marlborough Senior Housing, Veterans FIRST Transitional and Permanent Living facility in Manchester and the soon to be constructed Rivers Edge housing project in downtown Laconia. His awards included LEED Platinum for Homes at 100 Union Street in Manchester, LEED Gold for Homes at Pinecrest Apartments in Meredith, the 2010 Preservation Achievement Award for Lafayette School in Portsmouth and the 2007 Plan NH Merit of Excellence Award for Mechanic Street School Affordable Housing Complex in Laconia.
He had a love for the outdoors whether it be working the land with his trusty blue New Holland tractor or digging up rocks as well as various holes and ditches with his Kubota excavator. He designed and built the home in Sanbornton that he raised his family in and which would become a 'hobby' of his up until the time of his passing. Those that understood him and enjoyed his dry humor, loved him. His selfless love and support for his family was all he cared about. He will be missed dearly by his friends and family.
George is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Ann R. (Mitchell) Hickey of Sanbornton; two sons, Brendan J. Hickey of Sanbornton, Evan D. Hickey, and his wife, Rebecca, of Medford, MA; a daughter, Megan A. Hickey of Laconia; his mother, Evelyn Hickey of Essex, MA; a brother, James Hickey of Malden, MA; two sisters, Frances Minichello of Swampscott, MA. and Lynne Wilson of Seabrook, NH and several nephews and nieces.
There will be no calling hours.
