Obituary

Simon B. Alvarado passed away Feb. 26, 2015 at his home with his family at his side. Simon was born in El Paso, Texas on May 10, 1923 to Emilia B. and Antonio Alvarado.
He served his country during World War II with courage and valor. He was in the Invasion of Normandy and landed on Utah Beach on D-Day. He received various ribbons and medals for his services. After being discharged from the Army with an Honorable Discharge he joined the Navy during the Korean War. During this time he met his wife, Rita. They have been married for 63 years. Together they raised four children. Roberto Alvarado (wife Mary) from San Jose, James Alvarado from Thousand Oaks, Patricia Lechuga from Simi Valley (husband Ray) and Simon Alvarado, Jr. from Ventura. He had four grandchildren, Alethia Alvarado, Daniel Alvarado, Jason Alvarado and Jasmine Hendrickson. Two great-grandchildren Aiyana and Deniya Alvarado.
Simon liked to play golf and was a member of the Mexican American Gold Association in Ventura, serving as president. During his presidency he organized the biggest golf tournament in Ventura. He also was Director of the Clinics del Camino Real, a member of the Concilio and the Lulac organizations.
He worked most of his life as an Electrical Engineer. He retired from Sears in 1985 after working for more than 10 years with the company.
One of his favorite activities was going to Las Vegas and the Chumash Casino where he took great pleasure in playing the slot machines.
He liked to travel to Mexico City, Arizona (especially the Grand Canyon), and various historic places. Simon was an avid reader about the books of Silvia Brown and Political Science. In his younger years he participated in bull-fighting, as a banderillero in Ciudad Juarez and in Mexico City.
Simon was preceded in death by his parents Emilia and Antonio Alvarado, Aurelio Alvarado his brother and his sister Bertha Alvarez and his son James Alvarado.
He leaves behind various nephews and nieces. On oh his favorite nephews was Arturo Alvarado.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours Tuesday afternoon March 3, 2015 from 1 to 5pm in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME 757 E. Main Street Ventura, where there will be a 3pm Military Honors Service followed by a Most Holy Rosary to be recited at 3:30pm.
