New Bedford-Joseph S. “Uncle Joe” Mello Jr. died January 9, 2005 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the father of Joseph S. Mello IV of New Bedford. He was the brother of Joyce Ann Mello of New Bedford. He was the Nephew of Alice Benevedes of New Bedford. He was the companion of Jan Dakin of New Bedford. He was the step-father of the late Stephen Paul Wilson II. And he was the former husband of Catherine Mello of Dartmouth. He was also survived by several cousins and Godchildren.
Mr. Mello was the son of Joseph S. and Elsie (Medeiros) Mello. He was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all his life. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School Class of “65”. He was a laborer in the construction business. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Laborers-Local # 385. He was a member of The Washington Club, and The 6th Bristol Club.
His Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. Family and friends are invited. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday, January 10, from 7-9 P.M. and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 P.M.
