Maria (Rocha) Almeida, 77, of New Bedford died Friday January 7, 2005 at Taber Street Nursing Home after a long illness. She was the wife of the late John Almeida.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Severiano and Carolina (Almeida) Rocha, she had lived in Connecticut for several years before returning to live in New Bedford. She was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Almeida was formerly employed as a stitcher for Valor Manufacturing until her retirement.
She loved to read and listen to music.
Survivors include two sisters, Grace Cruz of New Bedford and Ezabel Andrade of South Dartmouth; a brother, Luiz Rocha of New York; her godmother, Valentina Almeida of New Bedford; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren.
She was the sister of the late Francisco Rocha.
A Private Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted.
