Ernest F. Medeiros, 76, of New Bedford died Thursday January 6, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Irene (Medeiros) Medeiros.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joseph M. and Emma E. (Francis) Medeiros, he had lived in New Bedford for all of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mr. Medeiros was formerly employed as a custodian for the New Bedford Public School Department until his retirement. He was also a drummer and singer who performed with many area bands, including the Tony Coleman Trio and the Hit Paraders.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion. He was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Ernest J. Medeiros of New Bedford; a daughter, Doreen Chisnell of Lincoln, RI; a brother, Joseph E. Medeiros of Cinnaminson, NJ; a sister, Dorothy M. Shammas of Warwick, RI; a grandson, Wayne Conner; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday January 10, 2005 at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Sunday January 9, 2005 from 4-8 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
