Obituary

HURLEY, Edward J. “Gig”, of Winthrop, February 22, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Barbara C. (Hackett) Hurley. Devoted father of Nancy E. Hurley-Claflin and her husband Thomas of Winthrop and Edward K. “Ted” Hurley and his wife Denise of Lynnfield. Adored grandfather of Amanda Marson and her husband Donald of Winthrop and Patrick and Jaclyn Hurley of Lynnfield. Loving great-grandfather of Ryan Edward Marson. Dear brother of Patricia Corkhum of Winthrop, Paul Hurley of Ipswich, Thomas Hurley of FL, and the late Daniel, Gerald, Michael and James Jr. Hurley, Anne Socha, Margaret Malone and Mary Rice. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St. Winthrop, on Tues, March 3, between 4-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. John the Evangelist Church on Weds, March 4, at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will follow in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section). In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Pl. Memphis, TN. 38105. Prior to his retirement, Gig was employed as a Steamship Clerk for the Steamship Authority. He was a Life Member and Past Exalted Ruler for the Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078, member of the I.L.A. Local 1066, and a member of the St. Dominic Savio Fathers Club. Some of Gig’s favorite activities were bowling, softball, and playing pool. He will be missed at Brown’s Drug Store and at the Collision Center, both in Winthrop, were he would visit daily to catch up on the day’s news. Funeral arrangements are from the Maurice W.
