LEANEY, LORRAINE M., age 95 of Westport, MA, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015. She was the cherished daughter of William and Winifred Leaney of East Providence.
Born in England, Lorraine came to the United States at age 9, and spent her formative years on Fisher’s Island, New York. She was valedictorian of her high school class and sang solo at her graduation. A 1940 graduate of (then) Bryant College, she became a pioneer as a female stockbroker at Kidder Peabody in Providence, prior to retiring from that Company in 1988.
Lorraine delighted in reciting her lovable and entertaining British vaudeville ditties that brought smiles to the faces of all who heard them. She was a lover of animals, particularly her precious dogs who she enjoyed walking on a daily basis. They gave her such joy and companionship throughout her life. Lorraine’s home in her later years was a haven for the flowers, birds and wildlife she adored. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by those who were fortunate to be called her friend.
Burial at Swan Point Cemetery will be private.
A Memorial Service, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at St. Andrew's-by-the-Sea, Little Compton, RI at 11:00 A.M.
