Barbara E. Johns, 81, of Derry, NH, died Friday, February 20, 2015 at Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson, NH. She was born in Freeport, ME on November 16, 1933, a daughter of the late Bernard and Frances (Winslow) Davis. She resided in Derry for over 65 years, where she was a 1951 graduate of Pinkerton Academy. Barbara had been employed by AGWAY in Derry, ran a daycare out of her home, and directed activities for the Derry Parks and Recreation. She was very involved with the Derry Youth Organization. A communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry, she was a member of the Tabernacle Society. Barbara truly loved being around and helping children. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing, knitting, and was an avid reader.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Charles Johns of Laurel Place in Hudson; three daughters, Lu Ann Gero of Derry, Jennifer M. Lajoie of Nashua, NH, and Stephanie Kilroy of Harvard, MA; two sons, Charles Johns of S. Portland, ME, and Jeffrey Johns of Londonderry, NH; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three siblings, Ronald Davis of Florida, Rodney Davis of Maine, and Bernice Gauvreau of Londonderry; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Bradley A. Johns.
Calling hours were held on Monday, February 23rd from 4 - 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry. The burial followed in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Londonderry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater NH Chapter, Five Bedford Farms Drive, Suite 201 Bedford, NH 03110.
