Obituary

Helen P. Wickey, 89, of Manchester, died peacefully on February 20, 2015 at Villa Crest Health Care Center, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Allenstown, NH on August 8, 1925, the daughter of James and Cora (Murray) Welch. Helen was a graduate of Pembroke Academy in 1943 and then worked for Textron Industries in Concord. She and her husband moved to Manchester in 1950, where they raised their family. She resumed her working career thereafter, with Blake’s Creamery and later retired from First NH Bank in 1990.
Helen was a parishioner of St. Raphael’s Church and a volunteer with their bingo program. She was a member of the St. Anselm’s College Faculty Wives’ Club and a volunteer at Camp Allen, for the blind. Helen was a very smart and fun person and thouroughly enjoyed time spent at the family camp in Canterbury. She was very involved with her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren. More so, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 41 years, George R. Wickey, in 1991, as well as her grandson Michael McCarthy in 2005.
The family includes three daughters, Brenda McCarthy and her fiancé Jim Zelonis of Litchfield, Jane Hearn and her husband Sean of W. Hartford, CT, and Eileen Wickey of Manchester; three sons, Robert Wickey and wife Penny of Weston, CT, Thomas Wickey and wife Sheila of Manchester, and Daniel Wickey and wife Lisa of Andover, MA; twelve grandchildren, Katie Quimby and husband Scott of Boston, MA, Greg McCarthy of Quincy, MA, Emily Wickey of New York City, Sydney Wickey of New York City, Brendan Hearn of W. Hartford, CT, George Wickey of Syracuse, NY, Elizabeth Hearn of W. Hartford, CT, John Wickey of Manchester, Kara Hearn of W. Hartford, CT, Ryan Wickey of Manchester, Nathan Wickey of Andover, MA, and Brian Wickey of Andover, MA; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at St. Raphael Church followed by committal prayers in the chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Alzheimer’s Association, 166 River Rd, #210, Bedford, NH 03110.
