Carmela (DeLuca) Kupchaunis, a longtime resident of Charlestown and formerly of the West End of Boston, entered into eternal life unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 91 years old.
Carmela was born in Boston on July 10, 1923, a daughter of the late John DeLuca and Carmela (Giglio) DeLuca. She grew up in the West End of Boston and was educated in the Boston Public School system. Carmela was a warm, loving and generous woman, she will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Carmela loved to watch her family prosper and grow. Carmela was ardently active helping the elderly at senior centers and and food pantries in Charlestown. Carmela volunteered for 8 years at the Massachusetts General Hospital gift shop.
Carmela is the beloved wife of the late Andrew J. Kupchaunis. She is the devoted mother of Camille Saitta and her husband Robert, Andrew Kupchaunis and his wife Arlene, John Kupchaunis and his wife Sheila and Paul Kupchaunis and his wife Cindy. She is the loving Nana to Lisa Zonfrelli and her husband Paul, Janine Saitta, Sebastian Kupchaunis, Alexandra Kupchaunis, Nicholas Kupchaunis, her great-grandchildren; Arielle, Zachary and Dominic Zonfrelli, Matthew Saitta, Vanessa Poirier and her great-great-grandson Jeremiah. She is the beloved sister of the late Jennie Ingrassia, Mary DeSabato, Rose DeLuca, Fred DeLuca and Constance Hogan. Carmela is also survived by Jean Cunniff.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Carmela's Funeral on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in Roslindale. Visiting hours will be on Monday, February 23, 2015 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
