Mr. James Melvin Wheatley, 79, beloved husband of Mildred Morris Wheatley for 45 years entered into rest on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Trinity Hospital of Augusta.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Platt’s Funeral Home with the Reverend Michael Davenport officiating.
Interment will follow the service at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown, GA.
Mr. Wheatley was born and raised in Richmond County, Georgia to his parents the late Thomas Harry Wheatley and the late Bonnie Marshall Wheatley. James served in the United States Army where he was a Purple Heart recipient for the Vietnam War, October 14, 1967 and later joined the National Guard. He is retired from the United States Postal Service. Mr. Wheatley was a loving husband, father and grandfather that loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Mildred he is survived by a beloved daughter Cheryl Wheatley Stitt, one brother, Harry Allen Wheatley (Vera) and one sister, Dorothy Gearhart. He leaves behind his three loving grandchildren, Nicholas T. Stitt, Jacob C. Stitt and Kayleigh Jane Wheatley Stitt.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Antes, Claude Johnson, Jimmy Marshall, Devin McGowan, Bryan Patterson and Spencer Patterson.
