Dorothy M. (Avelino) Rose, 82, of New Bedford died December 30, 2004 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Louis and Louise (Araujo) Avelino, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was a parishioner and active member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. She was a member and past president of St. Vincent dePaul Society at her church.
Mrs. Rose was the proprietor of Duall Hair Salon for many years until her retirement.
She was a member of the Cape Verdean Retirees Association.
Survivors include 2 sons, Manuel Rose, III, and his wife Olive, and Leonard Rose, and his wife Barbara, all of New Bedford; a daughter, Donna Rose of Orlando, FL; 2 brothers, Joseph Pina, and his wife Olivia, of Arizona and Donald Roderiques, and his wife Dolores, of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Mary Alves and Patricia "Cookie" Ribeiro, both of New Bedford; 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Alice Pinto.
Her remains were received by Harvard Medical School for anatomical research.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church Saturday, January 8th at 9 AM.
