Obituary

CHICOPEE – Irene G. (McDonald) LaMountain, 89, a longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, February 15, 2015. She passed into Eternal Life at Heritage Hall South in Agawam surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home on Dale Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee on April 24, 1925, a beloved daughter of the late Charles McDonald and Lena (Cloutier) McDonald. She was raised in Aldenville and graduated from Chicopee High School. She furthered her education and graduated from Fitchburg State College, where she received a Teaching Certificate. In 1948, she moved to Savoy Avenue in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield where she lived until 1962 when she returned to the Aldenville section of Chicopee. She began her career as a seamstress making sheets and pillowcases at the former Springfield Hospital. She later became the Building Services Manager and retired in 1987 after over 20 years of service. Irene also taught adult evening sewing classes at the former Chestnut Jr. High School in Springfield. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was a volunteer for many years at the Chicopee Senior Center and a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville, where she was a member and past president of the Ladies of Saint Anne Sodality. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend of 48 years, Frank J. LaMountain who was Called Home on January 29, 1994. She leaves her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Kirk C. LaMountain and his wife, Fran, of West Springfield; her cherished grandson, Kirk C. “Jake” LaMountain, II of West Springfield; her granddaughter, Michele LaMountain; her great-grandson, Shawn; her stepson, Stephan LaMountain; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the LaMountain and McDonald families. Besides her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her stepson, James LaMountain; her dear brother, Charles McDonald; and her dear sisters, Agnes McDonald and Hazel Camerlin. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, February 25, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will be private at a later date at the convenience of the family at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Diabetes Research Foundation, North Central CT/MA Chapter, 20 Batterson Park Road, 3rd Floor, Farmington, CT 06032 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
