Sherry M. Alligood, 73, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, February 15, 2015, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald. Her granddaughter, Rene Alligood, will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Wilcox County. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Alligood was born February 1, 1942, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Earl Mitchell & Anna Inez Rathbun Melton. She was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and received her beautician training in San Diego, California. She traveled with her husband during his Navy career and made her home in Cuba as well as Virginia, Florida, South Carolina, and California. She returned to Fitzgerald in 1979 and owned and operated several beauty shops including Lobo’s, A Cut Above, and Sherry’s at Shoney’s. Mrs. Alligood loved her cats and enjoyed working in her yard. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and helped many people whenever she could. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her children: Kelly Alligood of Fitzgerald, Michelle Alligood Battle and her husband Kevis Battle of Fitzgerald; and Billy Alligood and his wife Louise Alligood of Tifton; her grandchildren: Rene Alligood, Kerri Battle, Adele Alligood, Jesse Alligood; and two brothers: Earl Melton, Jr. and his wife Peggy Melton of Norman Park and Mickey Melton and his wife Marsha Melton of Fitzgerald. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William M. “Bill” Alligood and a grandson, Michael Hodge.
