Nash, Jonathan Brewster died unexpectedly on February 13th at the age of 49. Son of the late Polly Parsons Nash and the late John Brewster Nash of Duxbury, MA, he was a graduate of Noble and Greenough School and Colby College. He received his MBA from Babson College in 2003. An extraordinary individual, Jon was a fixture in the community of Duxbury and its surrounding waters.
Jon most recently was Director of Business Development for NewStreamH20, a wastewater treatment facility in Attleboro, MA. Previously, he was the co-founder of Copley Fine Art Auctions and the SVP of Sales and Marketing at ChildLife, Inc., of Holliston, MA, where he was instrumental in the turnaround of that company, resulting in an invitation to the White House where he met with President Clinton.
Jon was also an avid outdoorsman and consummate sportsman, who was committed to environmental sustainability and stewardship. A role model and a leader through his professional and personal networks and his day to day living he made the preservation of our ecosystems and the general appreciation for the land and the water a top priority. He served as Co-Chair of the Board of Councillors for the Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences in Manomet, MA since 2009. He also served on the Board of Trustees for the Sailor’s Snug Harbor of Boston since 2012. He also served in leadership capacities with Ducks Unlimited as Boston Chapter President, The Boston Flycasters as its Treasurer, and as a founder of the Duxbury Yacht Club Anglers Club and the Duxbury One Fly fishing tournament. He was an active volunteer for the Duxbury Beach Reservation. Jon was a staunch advocate for conservation of keystone species in Duxbury Bay, including herring, striped bass and black ducks. Often seen tagging and banding these species on the Bay, he collaborated with leading scientific researchers in these efforts.
Jon’s enthusiasm and boundless energy made him larger than life. He gave his full commitment to every activity whether fathering, hunting, fishing, cross country and alpine skiing, gardening, cooking, entertaining his friends and family, or preserving community history. For those whose lives were touched by Jon, he will always be remembered as a true renaissance man.
Jon is survived by his daughters Isabel and Charlotte Nash, their mother Laura Potter of Cohasset, and his beloved friend Sarah McBride of Dover, MA. He is also survived by his sister Emily Nash Hunnewell and her husband Frank, and their children Eliza and Ben of Wellesley, MA. He is also survived by his brother Timothy Brackett Nash and his wife Jody and their three daughters Hannah, Sophie, and Lucy of Hingham, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Duxbury Beach Reservation Trust, Inc. PO Box 2593, Duxbury, MA 02332 or Manomet, Inc., PO Box 1770, Manomet, MA 02345.
