Obituary

Richard E. “Dick” Benkart, SP5 United States Army National Guard and longtime resident of Stoughton passed away in Brockton after a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer on Friday February 13, 2015. He was 72 years old. He is survived by his brother Raymond A. Benkart and his wife Joni of Middleboro, his sister Donna M. St. Peter of Wareham and his brother Charles L. Benkart and his wife Cheryl of Onset. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews and friends.

Born May 10, 1942 in Boston,Massachusetts Richard was a son to the late Raymond A. and Alma L. (Boyce) Benkart. He attended Stoughton Public Schools and was a graduate of Stoughton High School. He was an avid sports fan. Richard was employed by both the Plympton Press and the Courier Printing Company for many years. Private Benkart proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1970. He was an active member and attended both the Canton American Legion Post and the Stoughton AMVETS Post. Dick will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and always remember " Can't we all play nice !! "

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday February 17, 2015 from 4 P.M. – 7 P.M. in the Sheehan, Lowe & Powers Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. NOTE: His funeral service will immediately follow at 7 P.M in the funeral home. The Pastor Fr. Joseph Mazzone officiating. All are welcome to attend and remember…. “Can’t we all play nice”. Cremation will follow and his interment will be held a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham,MA 01701 in Richard’s memory, would be appreciated.
