Robert P. Aguiar, age 74, of Fairhaven, MA, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2015 after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Frank and Mary Aguiar of New Bedford, MA.
A lifelong resident of the area, Bob served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era and was a New Bedford police officer until his retirement. He was also a diehard New York Yankee's fan and did not let anyone forget it.
He is survived by his long-time companion, Sheila Bergeron, of Fairhaven, MA. His family includes his children: Marie Thompson and her husband, Dave; Robert J. Aguiar and his wife, Cindy; and Karen Aguiar. His grandchildren: Bree Lynn Aguiar, Ashlee Aguiar and Matthew Thompson. His siblings: Hilda Lambert and Lee Terry; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings: Isabelle Aguiar, Mary Florio, Dave Aguiar, Rose Harris and Margaret Sheffield.
All are invited to his funeral mass which will be celebrated at St. Mary's Parish, 440 Main Street, Fairhaven, MA, on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 11 AM. Burial will take place at St. John's Cemetery at a later date.
