Whitman – Evelyn L. Anderson 97 of Whitman, MA passed away peacefully on February 9 at Brockton Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Elmer A. “Leggs” Anderson.
Always known as “Peach”, she was born in Whitman, MA in March of 1917 and was the daughter of the late Elwood S. and Ethel M. (Gage) Collins.
She was preceded in death by her beloved siblings; Edna (Collins) Vallancourt, Doris (Collins) Parker, Stanley Collins and Joseph Collins.
She is survived by her daughter Wanda Estrella of Marthas Vineyard, her son Kenneth Anderson of Whitman, and her grandchildren Ian Anderson, Peter Estrella and Giselle Tinkham. Peach is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Peach attended Whitman High School and had worked for the former Bostonian Shoe Company for many years. She was a longtime member of the Congregational Church of Whitman and had enjoyed bible study and Christian music.
Whether it be going for walks to get coffee with friends or driving around during Christmas to see the lights, she always enjoyed being out and about. She was a loyal fan of Lawrence Welk and never missed his show.
Peach was a beloved woman by anyone who met her, and will be truly missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
Visitation will be held Monday February 16 from 4:00-7:00 PM, with a service to follow at 7:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. All relatives and friends are welcome. A private burial will be held at a later date.
