Obituary

CHICOPEE – Nelson E. “Nel” Labrie, 85, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life from Vibra Hospital in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home on Columba Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee on July 2, 1929, a beloved son of the late Adelard and Leontine (Marcoux) Labrie. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Cathedral High School and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. He furthered his education and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Western New England College in Springfield. He was employed for 35 years and retired as an Operational Coordinator for the Monsanto Chemical Corporation in Indian Orchard. He was a member of the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus and a member of the Fairview Assembly 2670 Fourth Degree, both in Chicopee. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where he was a member of the League of the Sacred Heart. Nelson was the founder and a recipient of the Pope Piux X Award. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Theresa M. (Davio) Labrie. They were married on February 3, 1951 at the former Saint Patrick Church in Chicopee and were blessed with 64 years of happiness together. Besides his wife, he leaves his five loving children, Joyce M. Giroux and her husband, David, of Chicopee, Catherine A. Deecher and her husband, Joseph, and Thomas C. Labrie and his wife, Beverly, all of South Hadley, Patricia A. Gamble and her husband, Robert, of The Villages, FL and Francis E. Labrie and his wife, Lisa, of West Springfield; his 11 cherished grandchildren; his 15 cherished great-grandchildren; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Labrie and Davio families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his loving brother and three sisters, Fernand Labrie and his wife, Rita, Florestine Belanger and her husband, Edward, Aurore Robert and her husband, Roger, and Adrienne Roy and her husband, Wilfred. His funeral will be held on Monday morning, February 16, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, February 15, 2015 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
