Obituary

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Patricia Riordan, 90, of Cumberland, RI, on Thursday, February 12, 2015.Also known as “Pat”; she lived a full and long life and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of making her acquaintance.

Pat was born and raised in Medford to Margaret E. (Nagle) Louder and Thomas J. Louder. She married Dr. William J. Sweeney in 1948 and they were married for nine years until Dr. Sweeney’s untimely death from multiple sclerosis in1957. She worked at Union Carbide when she met her future husband V. Paul Riordan, a widower himself. They were married in 1966, and they were married for 45 years until Paul’s death from complications of Alzheimer’s disease in 2011.

Pat leaves behind three children, Paula M. King of Plainville, MA, Dennis P. Riordan of Dedham, MA and John J. Riordan and his wife, Pam of Franklin, MA.

Cherished grandchildren include Cynthia (John) Driscoll of Leominster, MA, Brenda (Joseph) Sansone of Mansfield, MA, Christopher (Heather) King of Whiteland, Indiana, Christopher (Erika) Riordan of Herndon, VA, Andrew (Kellie) Riordan of Lynn, MA and Mary Ellen Riordan of Lynn, MA.

Beloved great-grandchildren include Abigail Driscoll, Dylan and Hannah Sansone, Emily and Tyler King, Wilma and Marilyn Riordan, and expectant Grandbaby Riordan, due in August, 2015.
Pre-deceased by her brother, Thomas, her sister Mary deMontigney and dear brother-in-law Alan McLean, she is survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Mary R. McLean of Kennebunk, ME, treasured niece, Joanne D. Ulloa of Watertown, MA. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephew. Loving cousin of Sean Riordan and family of Ireland. Along with many, many very special friends and caregivers whom came into her life and lived in her heart. Pat had many interests including volunteer work (reading for the blind, making lunches for the less-fortunate, etc.). Warm and welcoming to all, she greatly appreciated even the tiniest of kindnesses brought her way. She was an avid reader, loved the seashore, mocha frappes and Egg McMuffins. Her Christian faith grew by leaps and bounds the last several years of her life and she deeply enjoyed reciting the Rosary and receiving daily Communion. A Cursillista, Pat attended one of the first Cursillos in 1964, when the Christian renewal movement was still in its infancy.
Funeral from the Robert J. Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home 1803 Centre St., West Roxbury, on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 11:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Holy Name Church at 11:30am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours in the funeral home on Tuesday morning, beginning at 9:30am. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery.
