Charles Walsh died February 12, 2015 at home with his loving wife and his devoted daughter Jane as his caregiver at his side. He was born May 25, 1925 in Cambridge. Son of the late Thomas and Gertude (Farrel) Walsh. He grew up in the Cambridge and Worcester area. Charles served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater. He rose to the rank of Captain after joining the National Guard for 18 plus years.
Charles is survived by his devoted wife Claire (Desy) Walsh and his 6 children. Charles Walsh Jr and girlfriend Patricia, of N. Brookfield, Carol Bottcher of Dudley, Catherine Musiello and her husband Richard of Sterling, Cynthia Bernard of Rutland, Jane Hippert and husband Terrance, and Jody Walsh of Goodyear, Arizona. He was predeceased by John Walsh and Jean D’Ambra and granddaughter Jacqueline Hippert. He also leaves 11 grandchildren: Marney, Azure, Shylah Marie, Michele, Jesse, Jeanette, Raymond, Shawn, Philip, and Leigh. He also leaves 14 great grandchildren. He leaves two brothers and their wives. John Walsh and his wife Mary, Edward Walsh and his wife Elizabeth, and numerous nephews and nieces.
In 1958 Charles and Claire moved with their 6 children to Santee, California and he worked at General Dynamics working on Atlas missiles. In 1962 the family returned to Massachusetts and Charles went to work at the State Department of Welfare, and attended Clark University and worked his way up to social worker supervisor. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and golfing. He golfed at numerous courses in Massachusetts and Florida.
Calling hours will be at Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester, on Tues., February 17, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and a Mass will be held at St John’s Church, 40 Temple Street, Worcester on Wednesday, February 18, at 10 a.m. Flowers will be appreciated. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
