Obituary

WAYLAND: James J. “Jerry” Wood, 83, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at his residence.
He was born in Harrisburg, PA on April 20, 1931 the son of the late Leslie Wood and Margaret (Buckley) Wood. He was pre-deceased by his wife Kathleen M. “Kathy” (MacDonald) Wood who died in 2009.
James was the beloved father of Terry Stirk and her husband Doug of Douglas; Debbie Swain and her husband Herb of Bellingham; Sandy Tobin and her husband Ken of Holliston; Jim Wood and his wife Lisa of Bellingham and John Wood and his wife Sue of Southborough. He was the devoted grandfather of Laura Stirk; Derek Stirk and his wife Erin; Jeffrey; Katie and Sheri Lindeman; Thomas “TJ”, Jamie and Samantha Tobin; Kirsten Wood; Jessica Wood and her fiancé Jim Gallagher; Shannon Ta and her husband Chris; Robert “RJ” Wood; Michael Wood and the late Tanya Wood. He was the cherished great-grandfather of Courtney; Casey; Jacob; Ezekial; Brianna; Lucas, Mia, Jossilynn; Olive; Declan and Olivia. He is also survived by his brother Frank Wood of Dennis. Devoted brother to Edith Welch, his “little” sister Edie who pre-deceased him by six days.
James spent his youth in Somerville and enjoyed his summers in Wayland. He served his country proudly during the Korean War with the United Sates Navy and remained a member of the VFW. He and his wife Kathy settled in Wayland where they raised their family. James was a tractor trailer driver with Hendries Frozen Foods for over 40 years. He was a member of the Wayland Rod and Gun Club and was the Club President during the 1970’s. James enjoyed working in his yard at his home in Wayland, trips to the casinos and fishing. His most treasured times were with his family, including Friday night dinner and card games.

Visitations will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 10:00 o’clock at the Church of St. George, 74 School Street, Framingham.
Interment will follow in the Wood family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that memorial gifts in his name be sent to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
