WHIDDON - R. E. "Whit" Whiddon, 79, of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away Monday afternoon, February 9, 2015.
He was born September 9, 1935 in Perry, FL and moved to Fernandina Beach in 1993 from Jacksonville, FL. He was a member of the Fernandina Beach Church of Christ. Mr. Whiddon was a man of quick wit and keen intelligence; a kind man with a good sense of humor. He was a huge Gator fan and loved animals. He loved his family and enjoyed doing things with his children. He was a devoted husband and father and was loved by all who knew him.
Even though he received many awards for outstanding performance as Regional President of Fina Oil Company, the work he was most fond of and received the most satisfaction from came later in his working career when he was employed with the Division of Blind Services as a Job Coach for the Blind. He is fondly remembered by all those he helped find meaningfulness in employment and life.
Mr. Whiddon is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara A. Whiddon of Fernandina Beach, FL; his three children, Deborah Whiddon Curtis, Ronald Ellis Whiddon and Donna Whiddon Perry (Michael R.), all of Fernandina Beach; a brother in law, Lowell Pritchard of Orange Park, FL; four grandchildren, Brittany Curtis, Lindsay Curtis Eldridge (Wes), Matthew Perry and Daniel Perry; one great grandchild, Anna Grace Eldridge; a niece, Karen Pritchard, nephew, Rusty Pritchard; many friends and his faithful, loving pet companion, "Lucky."
A memorial service will be held at Fernandina Beach Church of Christ at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 13, with Minister John Wright officiating.
