Obituary

Marcella Magdalena (Miller) Weikel, 97, passed away February 8, 2015.
Marcella was born on April 2, 1917 to Louis B. and Anna M. Miller in Starlight ,Indiana, one of six “Miller Girls”. Growing up and working on the Miller farm, Marcella joined her family in the fields, and talked of going home before noon to cook the large mid-day dinner for everyone.
On October 19, 1937, she married Virgil Fred Weikel at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Starlight, Indiana. She was the proud mother of three children, Mary Ann Gocke (Fred-dec.), Ginny Stiens (Robert) and V. Paul Weikel (Debbie). When the children were young, they moved to Shively, Kentucky. There Marcella was a long time member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church (St. Helen’s). Marcella was very active with her children’s activities, including being Den Mother for Paul’s Cub Scout Troop. Over the years, Marcella also worked in the cafeterias at St. Helen’s School and Butler High School. She is past member and officer of the St. Helen’s Altar Society (67 Years) and active member of St. Helen’s Quilters. Marcella’s tiny, even quilting stitches can be found in over 200 quilts, some won at Mary Queen of Peace’s picnics and others cherished by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
Marcella is preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Virgil Fred and sisters, Marie Miller, Catherine Kruer, Irene Miller and Rita Geraghty. She is survived by her sister, Delores Popp; and her children Mary Ann , Ginny and Paul. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ted Gocke (Jackie), Carol Ruddell, Randy Stiens (Karin),Rick Stiens (Kelle), Chris Weikel (Tonya), Clay Weikel (Tonya) and Matt Weikel (Jarin), and step-grandchildren Chris Moore (Martha) and Steven Moore. She is survived by 14 great-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren and one step great-great grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Mary Queen of Peace Church, 4005 Dixie Highway with burial in St Michael Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday at 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway.
