Obituary

TEWKSBURY _ Lillian M. Dewing, 92, died February 4, 2015 at the Tewksbury Hospital.

She was born in Tewksbury, Mass. on July 29, 1922, the elder daughter of the late William Howard and Loella ( Farmer) Dewing.

She attended the Tewksbury schools before working for some years in Lowell as a nanny. Her young charges grown, she went to Boston and enrolled for classes at the Fanny Farmer School of Cooking. She stayed on there for many years as cooking instructor and first assistant to the owner. When his ill health caused him to close the school, she returned to her home in Tewksbury to look after her mother. During this time she also worked for some years at a medical equipment supply company in Wilmington.

Until disabled by Parkinson's Disease, Lillian relished the companionship of her friend and neighbor, Bette Doucette Laferrier of Tewksbury, with whom she used to go shopping, take walks about the neighborhood and "do" lunch.

While she was still living at her home in Tewksbury, one of her grand nephews, Jeffery Scott Dewing, was especially helpful and attentive. More recently, when he moved to Tewksbury, she became very fond of her grand-nephew, Daniel O. Johnson. Lillian was devoted to her family.

She is survived by her younger brother Richard H. Dewing and his wife, Mary, of Durham, NH as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Especially dear to her heart was her niece Sharon Dewing Sala and her companion Jeff Wilder, Sharon's children, Chesley Alexander Steele, Tiffani Sala Abbott and her daughters Lilliana and Alaina, and Tiffani's twin brother Tony Sala and his wife, Sarah. It was with Sharon and her family that, for several decades, Lillian celebrated Thanksgivings, Christmases and other family gatherings.

Her family is deeply grateful for the care provided by the staff on Ward E2 at the Tewksbury Hospital during the long months of her illness.

Lillian was predeceased by her older brother, Philo R. Dewing and his wife Mabel Stacey Dewing, her sister Louise Doria, her nephew Bruce R. Dewing and her niece Sandra Louise Dewing White.
