William Woodrow “Woody” Hewett, 75, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, February 5, 2015, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Sunday, February 8, 2015, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Ronny Griner officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, from 7 to 9, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Hewett was born September 23, 1939, in Shallotte, North Carolina, to the late Henry and Lattie Register Hewett. A former resident of Shallotte, North Carolina, Mr. Hewett had lived in the community for 11 years. He was a former employee with the Union Local #25 out of New York City as a boat dredger. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and riding his motorcycle. Mr. Hewett was a member and Senior Steward with Pine Level Lodge # 353. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Fitzgerald.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years: Suzanne B. Hewett of Fitzgerald; children: Susan H. and Doug Rutter of Shallotte, North Carolina, Christopher James & Kim Rodgers of Coloma, Michigan, Donna Sue & Marty Thompson of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Billy Jay Rodgers of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Cindy Lee & Tim Bruce of Abbeville; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters: Gracie Mae H. & Gene Garland Evans of Shallotte, North Carolina and Christine H. & Richard Hewett of Shallotte, North Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother.
