David Wayne Nugent, 73, of Alapaha, Georgia, died Thursday, February 5, 2015, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton.
A funeral Mass will be held 11 AM, Saturday, February 7, 2015, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Alapaha, with Father Justin Ferguson and Deacon J. Brian Bergeron officiating. James Griffin will serve as Lector. Music will be provided by James Griffin and Mark Davis. Pallbearers will be Owen Nugent, Joe Nugent, Roger Nugent, Ricky Nugent, John Nugent, and Jason Nugent. Mr. Nugent’s nieces and nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at St. Ann’s with a Rosary service to follow at 9 PM. The family may be contacted at the residence of Ella Mae Nugent, 109 North Elm Street in Alapaha.
Mr. Nugent was born September 3, 1941, in Atkinson County, Georgia, to the late Owen James Nugent, Jr. and Wilma Daniel Nugent. A 1959 graduate of Berrien County High School, he lived in Alapaha most of his life. He was a former machine operator for Nashville Mills. He enjoyed reading and watching science fiction and enjoyed watching NASCAR. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Alapaha.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years: Jean Nash Nugent of Alapaha; two sisters: Louise N. Reese of Marietta and Judy N. Griffin of Albany and three sisters-in-law: Annette Nugent of Douglasville, Nell Rose Nugent of Alapaha and Ella Mae Nugent of Alapaha. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Charles Nugent, Herman Nugent, Kenneth Nugent and Jimmy Nugent.
