AUBURN-John L. “Jack” Whealan, 80, Auburn resident for 12 years, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Saint Vincent Hospital. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Alice C. (Cekay) Whealan; four children, Laura Daniel of Palm Springs, CA, Karen Lewis of Portland, ME, John T. “Jack” Whealan of Northborough and Alice E. Whealan of Shrewsbury. He also leaves eight grandchildren, Michaela and Emily Daniel, Anthony and Mackenzie Lewis, Chloe and Jenna Whealan and Caroline and John Cusolito; a brother, Robert Whealan of Cedar Grove, NJ; and many nephews and nieces. A brother Richard Whealan of California and a sister, Joan M. Flynn of Charlton predeceased him.
He was born in Teaneck, NJ, son of Robert B. and Mae (Engelhardt) Whealan and was raised in North Jersey. He graduated from Don Bosco Preparatory High School in Ramsey, NJ and Newark College of Engineering. Jack was stationed in Korea for one year while serving in the U.S. Army, and later served in the army reserves for several years. Jack and Alice lived in Butler, NJ for 40 years where they raised their family and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Board of Adjustment. He was an electrical engineer at Allied Signal Corporation in Teterboro, NJ retiring after 35 years. He was an avid Giant and Mets fan and he also enjoyed golfing, bowling, and sports car rallies.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 11 from CALLAHAN~FAY & CASWELL FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester with a Mass at 11:00 am at St. John’s Church, 40 Temple Street, Worcester. Interment will be private. Visiting hours are Tuesday, February 10 from 4-7 pm in the funeral home.
