Obituary

Fred Leslie Wachter
5/12/1927 - 2/3/2015

Fred passed early in the morning of February 3, 2015 of natural causes. Fred joined the Navy and served in World War II right after graduation from North Hollywood High School in 1945. In 1948 Fred married the love of his life, Janet Woodhouse, and they were happily married for 65 years before her death in 2009. Fred's whole career was in the Hay and Grain Feed Store business and he spent the last 44 years in Ojai, California where he owned and operated Wachter Hay and Grain until his retirement in 1988. After retirement, Fred and Janet moved briefly to Montana and traveled extensively until their return back in Ojai. They visited every state except Hawaii because "you can't get to Hawaii in a motor home."
Fred is survived by his sons, Eric and Fred Wachter, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Fred was a prominent member of the Ojai community touching many people's lives and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain Vista Manor and his personal caregiver, Deborah Moe, for their love and support in the past 5 years. There will be a graveside service Tuesday, February 10, at 11:00 AM at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to "Little House" c/o Help of Ojai, P.O. 621, Ojai, CA 93024 where Fred always has a good time. He has been entrusted into the care of JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura, CA.
