Maria G. "Shinda" (Fernandes) Goncalves, 60, of New Bedford died February 3, 2015 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of Mariana (Pina) Neves of New Bedford and the late Edwino "Néné" Fernandes, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and son, dancing, traveling and watching Sci-Fi movies.
Survivors include her mother; her son, Joao "Louie" Goncalves and his fiancée Kelly Coombs of New Bedford; 6 brothers, John Fernandes, Francisco Neves and Evo Neves, all of New Bedford, Joseph Montero of Boston, Euclideu Fernandes of France and Degar Fernandes of Europe; 4 sisters, Elizabeth Camilo-Ferris of California, Maria Fernandes and Kathleen Ramos, both of New Bedford and Irene Montero of Las Vegas; her former husband, Joao Goncalves of New Bedford; 2 grandchildren, Naomi Coombs and Joao "Louie" Goncalves, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 7th at 9 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday, February 6th 4-8 PM.
