Obituary

Rev. James F. Lanergan Jr., of Plymouth, died January 31st at the age of 80. He is survived by his uncle Denis Buckley of FL, several cousins and his friend Eileen McMahon of Quincy.
Rev. Lanergan was born in Boston and graduated from Boston College High School and St. John’s Seminary. His assignments included Blessed Sacrament in Jamaica Plains, St. Bartholomew in Needham, Most Holy Redeemer in East. Boston, St. Pius X in Milton, St. Theresa’s in Revere, St. Mary’s in Quincy where he was in residence, Holy Trinity in Boston, St. Steven’s in Framingham, St. Peter’s, St. Mary’s and St. Bonaventure’s in Plymouth. He was also the director of Holy Name and Sodalities and Daughters of Isabella and was a chaplain for the Department of Corrections, retiring in 2006.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 5th from 4 to 8 PM at St. Bonaventure’s Church in Plymouth. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 AM followed by burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers donations in Father Lanergan’s memory may be made to St Bonaventure Fund for the Needy, P.O. Box 996, Manomet, MA 02345.
