Obituary

James W. Dunn, Jr., 85, of Worcester, died Monday, February 2nd in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home after a brief illness. He is now reunited with his wife of 48 years, Mary T. (Walsh) Dunn who died in 2006. Jim leaves three sons, James W. Dunn, III and his wife, Jo-Ann of Rutland, Kevin M. Dunn and his wife, Judy of North Smithfield, RI and Thomas J. Dunn of Gardner; a daughter, Mary Beth Stanton and her husband Bill of Holden; his only sibling a sister, Marie Dowd and her husband, Philip of Worcester; a sister in law, Ruth Walsh of Milford, CT; three beloved grandchildren, Brendan W. and Ryan J. Stanton of Holden who called him “Buppie” and Katie-Rose of Rutland who called him “Pupa”, along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a brother in law, Thomas J. Walsh and a sister in law, Katherine M. Walsh.
He was born in Worcester, the son of fire captain, James W. Dunn, Sr. and Marie (Walsh) Dunn. Mr. Dunn was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. Jim was a patrolman with the Worcester Police Department for 38 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church. His many interests included the peaceful pastimes of gardening, bird watching, time spent with his faithful furry friend, Otis and greatest of all the time spent with his loving family.
His funeral is Saturday, February 7th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street. A calling hour will be held on Saturday, February 7th from 8:30 until 9:30 AM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
