Ferne Ellen Woodbury, 79, of Manchester, NH passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the Hackett Hill Healthcare Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 15, 1935 in Akron, OH, a daughter of the late Robert and Thelma (Thompson) Hayhurst. Ferne was first a homemaker, then led the local cub scouts and a 4-H group. She also became passionate about dogs – breeding and raising Golden Retrievers and later Lhasa Apsos for several years. Ferne was very active in the New England dog show circuit and made many friends along the way. A graduate of Vermont Junior College, Ferne was employed as an office administrator at Travelers Insurance, Centronics and later retired from Concrete Systems in Hudson, NH. Ferne was an avid reader and loved to play cards, including bridge.
Ferne is survived by her three sons, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
There are no calling hours. Private services were held by the family. Burial will be in the spring at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Londonderry, NH. At the request of Ferne, in lieu of sending flowers, please make a donation to a charity of one’s choice. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry is assisting the family with arrangements.
