Daniel R. Dennis, 73

Dateline: Norton, MA

Daniel R. Dennis, age 73, of Norton, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, January 30, 2015 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.
He was the beloved husband of Diane M. (Tripp) Dennis, to whom he was wed on September 23, 1967.
Born in Fall River, MA on June 6, 1941, he was a loving son of the late Antone and Eva (Silvia) Dennis.
Dan grew up in Fall River and was a graduate of Diman Vocational High School. He also received an Associates degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology at Bristol Community College.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army National Guard during the Vietnam Era.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Dennis was a Test Equipment Specialist and had been employed for 38 years at Northrop-Grumman in Norwood.
A resident of Norton for the past 35 years, he was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton and a member of the Norton Knights of Columbus Council 11690.
When not spending time with his adoring family, Dan’s greatest passion in life was baseball. He had coached both little league and senior league baseball in Norton. He was the founder and former manager of the Norton Knights and in 2009 was inducted into the Cranberry Baseball League Hall of Fame.
He was the number one fan of the Boston Red Sox, and when younger was an avid and accomplished bowler.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Michael D. Dennis and his wife Heather of Sutton, Mark R. Dennis and his wife Amie of Florida and Lori A. Bourgoin and her husband Paul of North Kingstown, RI. He was the dear brother of Lorraine Judge of Somerset and is also survived by his cherished 9 grandchildren.
His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Friday, February 6th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 5th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
In lieu of flowers, Dan’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon St., Watertown, MA 02472 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105
