
CHICOPEE – John J. Pokora, 57, of the Willimansett Heights section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, January 27, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by all the memories he loved and cherished. He was born in Holyoke on October 2, 1957, a beloved son of Jane T. (Kos) Pokora of Chicopee and the late Edward Pokora who was Called Home on November 27, 2010. He was raised in Chicopee and graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School. He raised his family in Agawam where he lived for many years before returning to Chicopee. He served his country in the United States Army and attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. He was employed at the US Postal Service National Distribution Center in Indian Orchard. John was a quiet man who enjoyed his morning walk with his faithful canine companion, Toby. Besides his beloved mother, he leaves his loving children, Jessica L. Pokora of Agawam and Senior Airman Nicholas J. Pokora, USAF and his wife, Melanie, of Richmond Hill, GA; his loving brother, Edward J. Pokora and his wife, Carmen, of Oxon Hill, MD; his cherished nephew and niece, Christopher Pokora of Accokeek, MD and Christine Pokora of Arlington, VA; his cherished grandnephew, Colin Pokora of Accokeek, MD; his former wife, Darlene M. (Liquori) Lenza of Agawam; and his many extended members of the Pokora, Kos and Liquori families. His family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, February 1, 2015 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 4:30 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family and friends are also invited to attend his Committal Service with US Army Military Honors on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam.
