Charlotte Spanganberg Ellis passed away peacefully in Franklin, Massachusetts on January 27, 2015 at the age of 80. She was born on December 16, 1934 in East Irvington, New York to Charlotte Lee Pinkston and Willard Francis Hayes and spent her childhood living with several generations on family farms in Kentucky and Ohio.
She married Eugene Freeman Spanganberg on April 17, 1954 in Palmyra, New York and raised her family there. Charlotte never doubted that her first calling in life was to be a wife and mother. She created a loving home for her family and found unmeasured joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was a talented seamstress, a gifted artist and wrote and illustrated children’s stories and poetry. She was a friend to all and enjoyed entertaining in her home as often as she could.
She started a successful small business, S & H Associates, a company that grew to help many throughout her area, particularly women.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and it was while working at the Palmyra Temple that she met and married Glen James Ellis on March 30, 2002. For many years, she and Glen had the pleasure of serving volunteer missions for the Church in both Sibu, Malaysia and Oakland, California. They eventually settled in Queen Creek, Arizona where they happily resided until Glen passed away in November of 2010.
Charlotte enjoyed life to its fullest and maintained her faith, good humor, and kind nature until her passing. She leaves behind a loving family and is blessed with a strong legacy.
She is survived by her children: Robert Spanganberg of Rochester, New York, Leslie Doughty (Chris) of Wrentham, Massachusetts, Elaine Zelter (Peter) of Brighton, New York, and Peter Spanganberg (Lynn) of Queen Creek, Arizona. She will be missed by her grandchildren: Lauren (Kirk), Brenna, Jeffrey, Emma, Hayden, Kate, Nemi, Ryan, Jack, Andrew, Ethan, Sage, Shea, and great grand daughter, Isla Jane.
