Gilmanton----DeWayne L. Eckerdt, 63, of Chestnut Avenue, passed away suddenly Friday, January 23, 2015 at Lakes Region General Hospital.
He was born July 6, 1951 in Modesto, California to Laura (Schutte) and John Eckerdt. He was in the U.S. Air force from 1969 to 1973 as an Electrician. DeWayne was a supervisor for General Motors for 7 years. He was a member, as well as past Quarter Master of the VFW in Rockland, MA Post #1788 since 1992. He was also a past member of the American Legion in Whitman, MA post #22 for several years.
DeWayne enjoyed fishing, loved reading anything he could get his hands on, rooting on his favorite NASCAR driver (Ernie Irvan) as well as listening to country music and the oldies. He also enjoyed playing games on his computer such as candy crush and solitaire, but above all he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, June (Pinkham) Eckerdt, six children, Dewayne Eckerdt, of CA, Snow Taylor, WA, Leo Hanson of NH, Julie Perriera of NH, Renee Galarneau of CA and June Hanson of NH, two brothers, Douge Eckerdt and Kevin Eckerdt both of CA, a sister, Diane Schroeder of NE, eighteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is predeacesed by his brother, Rodney Eckerdt.
