Obituary


John R. Langley - son, brother, nephew, cousin, soldier, husband, father, boss, grandfather, great grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, friend and gentleman - died peacefully January 8, 2015 in Winter Springs, Florida at the age of 93.

He is survived by his daughters, Donna Leinsing, Debra Fuchs and Ruby Stephens; his son, John Langley; his ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Ruby McGowan, his brother, Melvin Langley, and nephews, nieces and friends in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, New Hampshire, New York, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and in Belgium.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Rita V. (Carrier) Langley and his daughter, JoAnn Miller Frankenberger, three sisters, Jesner, Dorothy and Artie Lee, three brothers, Richard, Marcine and Albert, his mother and father.

John Rogers Langley was born on August 22, 1921 in Mobile, Alabama to Richard and Ruby Langley. He was a devout Catholic and enjoyed playing basketball with Father Burns and the CYO team. He graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile and enlisted in the US Army Air Corps. He served in the South Pacific during World War II, and when he returned to the states, he was stationed at Grenier Field in Manchester, NH, where he met his wife, Rita V. Carrier. They were married November 24, 1945, raised five children, and for 62 years they worked and enjoyed life together.

John served his community as a Selectman in Goffstown, NH; he developed and built Rosary Hall for the Villa Augustina Academy in Goffstown, NH with Father George Harvey, students' parents, and community business people. He was a proud member of the Lions Club and served as President of the Pinardville Lions Club, and Governor of the Lions Club in New Hampshire. He also served on the Catholic Medical Center, Merchants National Bank and St. Anselm's College Boards that were dedicated to improving health, education and economy for people in and around Manchester, NH.

John and his wife, Rita, co-owned and operated J & R Langley Co., Inc. in Manchester, NH for 45 years. John and Rita retired in 1984, and after selling the business, they moved to Timber Pines in Spring Hill, Florida to enjoy the sun, swim, and play cards, tennis and golf with good friends.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Brookdale at Tuskawilla Assisted Living Community for their loving care and friendship for nearly two wonderful years that he enjoyed living there, and Hospice of the Comforter Nurses who helped us during the last two days of his long, full, successful and loving life.

John will be remembered for his strength, determination and his stories. He frequently said, "I was always in the right place at the right time." He loved sunshine, people, and his family most of all.

Friends may join the family at J. N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home on Saturday, January 31 between 9:30 -10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am at Ste. Marie's Church with Father John MacKenzie officiating, followed by a committal service at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Manchester, NH.
