Kathleen Grace (Turner) DeMarinis, 75, of Winchester, passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital on Jan. 23, 2015, after a long illness. She was the wife for 56 years of Joseph V. DeMarinis.
Born in Buffalo, New York, Kathy was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Miller) Turner. She obtained her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Genesee Community College in Batavia, NY. An antiques dealer, Mrs. DeMarinis had an eye for spotting a valuable object and enjoyed antique hunting, including at garage sales and flea markets.
Known as an adventurer, Kathy traveled the Globe, visiting over 42 countries. Her daughters recounted trips to some of her favorite places, including Morocco, China and Turkey, and one trip where they drove from Buffalo to Mexico City.
An avid reader, Kathy enjoyed participation in a book club with friends, which she organized in the neighborhood, and was a competitive scrabble player. In her spare time, she enjoyed volunteering with the En Ka Society of Winchester.
In addition to her husband, Joe, Mrs. DeMarinis is survived by her daughters; Mary Rose Schwartz and her husband Ben of La Jolla, CA, and Jennifer Wadnizak and her husband Mark of Ventura, CA. She was the dear sister of Patricia Weiser of Warsaw, NY, the devoted grandmother of Lindsey and David Schwartz, and is further survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting Hours will be held at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington Street, Winchester, on Monday, Jan. 26th from 4-8PM. Relatives and friends are again invited to gather at the funeral home on WEDNESDAY, January 28th at 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester, with a reception at St. Mary's Church Gathering Room (lower level of church). Those not going to the cemetery are invited to go right to the Gathering Room.
