Walter L. Haywood, Jr.
TEWKSBURY: Walter Leon Haywood, Jr. age 87, a resident of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully at the Woodbriar of Wilmington on Monday, January 19, 2015, following an extended illness.
He was the husband of Jacqueline (Waters) Haywood, who passed away on February 16, 1999.
Born in Cambridge on July 5, 1927, he was the son of the late Walter L. and Margaret M. (Halloran) Haywood. He was the brother of the late Peggy Dimock, Ethel Martell, Paul, Maurice, Donald and Jackie Haywood. He was the cousin of the late Frank Haywood.
Walter was raised in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High and Latin School.
In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Ottawa and the U.S.S. English. He was awarded several decorations for his military service including the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal.
Following his military service he entered Boston University where he received a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.
Walter resided in Stoneham where he and his wife of 50 years Jackie raised their family. Walter was very active in the community. He was elected a member of St. Patrick's first Parish Council and served as the Council's second President. He also served as a President of the Robin Hood Elementary School PTA, the Stoneham High School PTA, and the Stoneham Lions Club.
Upon his retirement he moved to Florida and enjoyed volunteering for many organizations including the Disabled American Veterans.
Known as Bud to many, he was the life of the party at social gatherings.
He is survived by his four children, Dale Haywood and her partner Sherry Levesque of Winthrop, ME, Thomas Haywood of Beverly Hills, CA, Lori Hyland and her husband James of Tewksbury and David Haywood and his wife Julie of Wayland. He was the grandfather of Jeffrey Hyland, Keith Hyland, and Grace Haywood.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 31st at 10 a.m., at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
