Obituary

Mary (Kalamaridis) Tribou, 97 passed away on January 15, 2015, in Gloucester, Mass., after a long rich life. She was the wife of the late Earl W. Tribou, a chemist, who died in November of 2001.
Born December 28, 1917 in Chania, Crete, she immigrated to America via New York City with her mother Helen Kalamaridis and older sister Kathryn.
Mary devoted her studies to the performing arts. A fine mezzo-soprano, during World War II, she volunteered with the USO, performing in a vocal quartet across the continental U.S., Hawaii, and the Philippines. After the war, Mary served as a cantor at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York.
Mary and Earl were married April 11, 1953, at Church of the Transfiguration in New York. They made their home in Yonkers, N.Y., where Mary worked in education. In the early 1990s, Mary and Earl retired to the Tribou family homestead in Gloucester, Mass.
She is survived by her children, Lauren (Tribou) Majeika of Mineral Va., and William E. Tribou of Ossining, NY.; granddaughters Danielle and Victoria Majeika of Mineral VA., and Justine Tribou of Ossining, NY; and three generations of nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sister, Kathryn (Kalamaridis) Ktistes; and brothers Anthony and Michael Kalamaridis.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 5 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Beechbrook Cemetery.
