Obituary

Eugene Richard Finn, age 87 of Prosser, entered into rest on January 11, 2015 at Tri-City Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick. He was born on August 1, 1927 in Yakima, Washington to Dwight and Georgia (Finn) Jensen. He was raised and educated in Prosser, Washington where he lived his entire life. He attended Prosser High School where he played football, basketball, baseball and graduated in 1947. Eugene and Florence Ann Axtman were married on June 26, 1948 in Prosser where they continued to make their home and raise a family.

Over the years, Gene worked as parts manager for Taylor Motor Company, at several service stations, as manager of Bestway Lumber, as manager of Western Auto and as a waste water technician for the City of Prosser until retiring in 1995.

Gene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 66 years, Knights of Columbus, Prosser Jaycees and the Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing, drawing, reading, sports and being a handyman. He was well known for his honesty, integrity, strong work ethic and good sense of humor. Gene was a kind, gentle and loving person. His family was his number one priority in life and he loved family gatherings very much. Gene had a positive attitude, despite having Parkinson’s disease. He was a strong fighter and never complained. Gene will be deeply missed.

Gene is survived by his wife, Florence of Prosser; his children, Gary Finn of Benton City, Richard Finn and his wife, Ginger of Fircrest, Lonny Finn and his wife, Esther of Auburn, Georgia Adolf of Kent and Shawn Finn of Benton City; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Georgia Jensen; his grandmother, Viola Finn, who raised Gene and his brother, Ben, after their mother’s early death; his daughter, Valerie Conatser; his son-in-law, Ron Adolf; and his brother, Ben Finn.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, January 23, at Prosser Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prosser. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J.
