Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Norman J. Dion, 92, of the East Forest Park section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, January 19, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life from Heritage Hall East in Agawam surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on October 23, 1922, a beloved son of the late Louis and Rose (Goulet) Dion. He was raised in Springfield and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was last employed as a maintenance electrician at Station 8 in West Springfield for the Western Massachusetts Electric Company and retired in 1985. He previously worked for several years for the Boston and Albany Railroad in Springfield. During his leisure time, Norman enjoyed fishing and always took great pride in having a new vehicle. He loved his family and enjoyed his many trips to Hampton Beach with them. Most of all, he was a quiet man who provided for his wife and family and showered them with his love and affection. He was a longtime communicant of the former Saint Joseph Church and currently a communicant of Saint Patrick Church, both in Springfield. He leaves his beloved wife of over 70 years, Marie W. (Desotell) Dion; his five loving children, Norman J. Dion and Barbara J. Sleeper and her husband, Lawrence, all of Feeding Hills, Donald A. Dion and his wife, Carolyn, of Ludlow, and Leonard P. Dion and his wife, Maria, and Linda M. Cote and her husband, Kenneth, all of Chicopee; his 11 cherished grandchildren, Michelle Day and her husband, Michael, Nicole Duggan and her husband, Edward, Nicholas Dion and his wife, Jessica, Matthew Dion and his wife, Cristen, Laurie Butt and her husband, Michael, Lynette Langone and her husband, Anthony, Lonny Sleeper and his wife, Pamela, Jontae Dion, Leo Dion, Jayk Dion and Laina Dion; his 18 cherished great-grandchildren, Ryan, Ashley and Courtney Day; Kiley and James Duggan; Madalyn and Ella Dion; Carmella Dion; Steven, Rachel, Samantha and Tyler Butt; Gianna , Elisa and Mia Langone; and Brittany, Caitlin and Alexandra Sleeper; his dear sister-in-law, June Dion of Florida; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Dion and Desotell families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brothers, Roger and Richard Dion. His family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. His funeral and burial on Saturday, January 24, 2015 will be private for his family.
