Chief Quartermaster William (Bill) Apostolos, 91, a long time Manchester resident, passed away on Jan. 18, 2015. He was born in Providence, RI on Feb. 12, 1923, a son of Nicolas and Agora (Pappoulous) Apostolopolous. He was predeceased by a son Thomas and a wife Mary.
Bill attended Franklin Street and Central High School in Manchester.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy Submarine service for 27 years and sailed on the submarines Flying Fish, Toro, Burrfish, Shad, Odax, Angler, Jallao, Sea Dog, Haddock, Sea Lion, Conger and Albacore. He served on the Flying Fish during the famed “Hellcats of the Sea” patrols in the Sea of Japan and was on active duty during WWII, the Korean and VietNam wars.
After retirement from the Navy Bill managed a furniture factory and also worked at West Side Lumber in Manchester. He was known to many as a smart man with a great sense of humor.
He is survived by a daughter, Susan Bachta and her husband Tony of Goffstown, NH; a son, Richard Apostolos and his wife Debbie; two granddaughters, Jessica and Karen Bachta of San Diego, CA.
