Obituary

(Creighton) Paul Wheeler,75, of Winchester, passed away after a brief illness on January 18th. 2015. He was the husband of Margaret E. (Tierney) Wheeler. He had three sons and five grandchildren that he adored. Surviving are Gregory and wife Patricia Rich and their children Taylor and John Paul; Mark and wife Christin and their children Olive, Owen and Ivy; and Christopher Wheeler of Cambridge. He leaves his sister Janis Fink of Pittsburgh, PA and his two sisters-in-law Ann Tierney and Sally McNichols and husband Jack. Paul is further survived by 4 nieces and nephews.

Paul grew up in Cambridge and after high school he attended the Air Force Academy, Babson and Northeastern University. He was a 20-year employee of Polaroid. He also worked for Bausch and Lomb and later worked in the mortgage field.

Paul was an avid skier in his earlier years. Sensibly he had given that up. His primary focus from August to February were his beloved Patriots. Most Sundays found him making his chili and watching “the game” with his children and grandchildren.

Paul loved to barbeque, and most Sundays he loved gathering his family for the “Sunday dinner.” His lobster roll treats at the Cape were a family tradition. Paul was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends, and was famous for his political views! Many “lively discussions” arose over his politics.

He was not a church-going Christian, but had all the elements of love for his fellow man: kindness to others and help to any in a time of need. He will be missed by family, friends and all whose lives he touched.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington Street, Winchester, on Thurs., Jan. 22 from 4-8PM and then again on Friday at 10 AM followed by a Prayer Service at St. Mary’s Church 155 Washington St., Winchester, at 11 AM. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to The Friends of the Winchester Public Library, 80 Washington St. Winchester, MA 01890. Late veteran U.S. Air Force.
