George M. Witherell, 72, of Hanson, died suddenly at home on Saturday January 17th. He was the son of the late George D. and Dorothy E. (Richardson) Witherell.
George was born in Brockton and has been a lifelong resident of Hanson. He was a graduate of Abington High School, Class of 1960.
He served his country in the United States Navy from 1961-1965 and was aboard the USS FDR Aircraft Carrier.
Mr. Witherell was employed by D'Amato's Supermarket and Angelo's Supermarket. He was a member of DAV chapter 119 and American Legion. He loved listening to music and spending time with his family and friends.
He leaves behind two daughters: Joanne M. Bowen and her husband Paul of East Bridgewater, MA and Barbara A. Williams and her husband John of Berkley, MA and five grandchildren: Michael, Nicole, Ashley, Lindsey and Ryan. He is also the brother of Priscilla DelPrete of Rockland, MA and the late Ernest C. Witherell. He is also survived by his former wife, Linda L. Witherell of East Bridgewater. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral services will be held on Thursday January 22nd at 10:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Interment will follow in the MA National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:30 PM. Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 21st from 4:00-8:00 PM.
