Obituary

CHICOPEE – Joseph R. “Bob” DiNubla, 89, a longtime resident of Ridgewood Village in Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life at Orchard Valley Assisted Living in Wilbraham surrounded by all the memories he loved and cherished. He was born in Boston on October 25, 1925, a beloved son of the late Rocco DiNubla and Josephine (Ring) Salmen DiNubla and was raised and schooled in the Orient Heights section of East Boston. He later moved toManchester, New Hampshire and lived there until moving to Chicopee around 1994. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and attained the rank of Technician Fifth Grade. He served in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe and received two Purple Heart Medals for wounds received in action. He also received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his military service, he returned to East Boston and was employed as a security guard for the Post Office and Nabisco Crackers in Boston. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his half-brother, Warren Salmen. He leaves his longtime friends and caregivers, Amy L. and Michael A. Grabowski of Holyoke. His funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, January 21, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:15 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:45 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with US Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday morning, January 21, 2015 from 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. before the Mass. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
