Obituary

Joseph F. Honohan, 95, of Walpole died January 14 in the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Northborough. He was the husband of the late Geraldine M. (Donovan) Honohan who died in 2010.
Born in Norwood, November 5, 1919, the son of the late Robert and Mary (Burns) Honohan, Mr.Honohan was a lifelong Walpole resident.
He was a 1940 graduate of Walpole High School.
Mr. Honohan had been a police patrolman for the Town of Walpole from 1953until his retirement in 1984.
Mr.Honohan was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association, the Walpole American Legion, Post 104 and the Walpole VFW Post 5188.
Joe enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Mr. Honohan served in the Navy in both World War II and the Korean War.
He served on the USS Augusta during World War II.
This ship served as the ship that took General Patton to the invasion of North Africa, and during the invasion at Normandy on June 6, 1944 both General Eisenhower and General Bradley were on this ship.
He was also on this ship when it took President Roosevelt to the Yalta Conference and President Truman to the Potsdam Conference.
Mr. Honohan is survived by his daughter Patricia Noyes and her husband Frank of Hudson.
He is also survived by his brother James Honohan and sister Veronica Carter of Walpole.
He was the brother of the late John Honohan and Madeline Dodge.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Thursday January 22 from the Ginley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 892 Main Street, Walpole at 10:15 followed by a funeral mass in Blessed Sacrament Church at 11:00.
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, South Walpole.
